Rainwater Harvesting

When rainwater falls on our roof areas, it is clean and clear with virtually no contaminants. If you do not have a rainwater harvesting system, this water goes down your gutters in the stormdrain and is mixed with dirty surface water of much poorer quality with all sorts of contaminants. Together, this is all transported miles and miles to the nearest treatment facility to be cleaned up ready for use as mains water. The transportation involves massive pumps with a huge carbon footprint to pump the water to its final destination.

This is such a waste; to let essentially clean rainwater be mixed with dirty water, only to have it cleaned again. It is much better for the environment to put it through the localised, minimal filtration process provided by a rainwater harvesting system, for use immediately on site.

In terms of Co2e levels, mains water production is 0.344m3 whilst rainwater harvesting is 0.059m3. This means for every 1000m3 of harvested rainwater used instead of mains water, we can save 285Kg Co2e.

Boost your eco credentials whilst showing your passion for water conservation and claim up to 5 additional BREEAM points for your project. Contribute towards water neutrality targets and help reduce localised flood risk by harvesting rainwater for non-potable applications. In turn you will save money off water utility bills and your property will be protected against the supply challenges of the future.
